HEATWAVE ALERT

Heat, Hormones and Midlife: Why Some Women Feel the Temperature More

What causes a midnight muscle spasm?

Extreme heat causes dehydration and a quick drop in electrolytes, the key minerals like sodium and potassium. heavy sweating causes your body to lose these minerals. If they get too low, your muscles fire by mistake and lock up into a painful spasm

JULY ’26

The current heatwave is taking its toll on many of us, often in ways we don’t immediately associate with the warmer weather. Have you’ve noticed symptoms such as; muscle cramps, disturbed sleep, fatigue or dry, uncomfortable skin? your body may simply be struggling to stay cool and hydrated as the heat can compound these symtoms.

Here are a few simple ways to support yourself during the hotter days and such symptoms:

💧 Night-time cramps and muscle spasms
These are common during hot weather as we lose fluids and essential minerals through sweating. Drink water regularly throughout the day, and if cramps develop, our RR Muscle & Joint Recovery Spray can provide fast, targeted relief to help relax tight muscles. Perfect for those painful nightly muscular seizures that can happen fast.

🚿 Cool your body often
Rather than one long shower, try several quick, cool showers throughout the day. They will help reduce body temperature and leave you feeling refreshed without shocking the body.

💦 Keep your skin cool and hydrated
Heat, sun and air conditioning can all dry the skin surprisingly quickly. A few sprays of our RR Cooling Body Mist throughout the day will provide an instant cooling sensation while helping to hydrate and soothe the skin. Follow with your usual daily moisturiser and always apply an SPF when spending time outdoors. In the evening, nourish your skin overnight with the RR Replenishing Face Cream, allowing it to restore moisture while you sleep while healing any heat damaged areas. The ReTREAT Night Cream works wonders for skin feeling hormonally dry. Try to cool the bedroom before sleep and change damp clothes promptly.

⚡ Feeling fatigue, drained or unusually tired?
Fatigue is one of the most common effects of prolonged heat. Too much coffee or alcohol can increase dehydration, making you feel even more exhausted. Consider starting your day with an electrolyte drink to replace essential minerals and support healthy hydration.

🥗 Choose foods that hydrate
Light meals are often the most satisfying in hot weather. Fill your plate with salads, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, berries and other water-rich fruits and vegetables, together with a good source of protein such as chicken, fish, eggs, beans or tofu to help maintain steady energy levels.

💙 Listen to your body
If you become dizzy, develop a persistent headache, feel unusually weak or confused, or stop sweating despite the heat, move to a cooler place, drink fluids and seek medical advice if symptoms continue.

The heatwave won’t last forever it seems to be a fluctuating occurrence so looking after yourself during such warmer days will help you feel far more comfortable. Slow your pace where possible, stay hydrated with frequent sips, protect your skin with added moisturising creams and SPF which will give your body the care it deserves.

If symptoms are becoming difficult to manage naturally, do reach out for in-depth support. Remember to seek urgent help for confusion, collapse, chest symptoms or severe breathlessness.

Stay cool, stay hydrated and enjoy the sunshine safely.
